EcoFlow Delta 2 Review

Here it is, the big one. We turn our attentions to an EcoFlow Delta 2 Review.

Why big?

Well, as portable power stations go, this is a big ‘un. Naturally, then, it has a big price to match. And it’s big in terms of popularity, selling really well in the UK since its launch.

EcoFlow have long been one of the most highly regarded solar generator makers. HIghly regarded for their build quality and longevity; while the company themselves have a good reputation for customer care and after-service.

We’ve been suprised that with increasing competition, they’ve reduced their prices quite a lot in the last 2 to 3 years.

Does that make the Delta 2 a no brainer? Well, it’s still a proper investment. We’ll be analysing its real -life performance and how it compares to to other power stations of this size.

Check out the price and specifications, at EcoFlow UK.

Here are the specifications, a picture and basic info below. Read on, then, for the full review.

Rating the Delta 2

Let’s break it down for you; what did we like and dislike aout this battery generator?

EcoFlow DELTA 2 Portable Power Station

EcoFlow Delta 2

The good aspects, and who needs this model:

The usual outstanding EcoFlow quality
The build quality of EcoFlow power stations is usally great, and the Delta 2 is no exception. When we consider the likely longevity of a product, we consider that overall quality as equally important to the battery lifespan. The high quality power station brands all now use modern LiFePO4 batteries and sophisticated BMSs; if you really want to estimate the lifespan and get the one that’ll last the longest, you should look at the quality of the components and the build quality of the unit. In this regard, we believe EcoFlow to be foremost in this aspect.

One of the most full-featured power stations
EcoFlow have, for many years now, been the progenitor of many features that have become common in power stations. Really a trendsetter, that other products copy and add to their own. Many have imitated but EcoFlow still are possibly the best in this respect. The Delta 2 is exceptionally full-featured, even by the standards set. Modern LiFePO4 battery and BMS, 5 year warranty, genuinely fast charging (they all say that, but what was fast 5 years ago, for example, is slow now), high wattage AC and DC charging, a high number of ports (more than double Jackery’s new Explorer 1000 v2), App with Wifi, expandable if you need more power.

The best for solar charging and power delivery
EcoFlow has an excellent ecosystem of high quality solar panels that can be used in conjunction with the Delta 2. The high maximum power output of 1800W, in combination with the excellent 500W maximum solar panel charging power is only beaten by the Anker Solix C1000 (which costs a few hundred quid more, at time of writing). That Anker model matches the Delta 2’s 1800W ouput and offers an increased solar panel maximum power of 600W. It’s no coincidence that both use the latest LiFePO4 batteries.

The Wifi App
We mentioned in the introduction EcoFlow’s trendsetting, and status as a market leader. The excellent EcoFlow App is reflective of that; and still the best App there is. It’s super easy to use, and Wifi compatibility works so well; for those who want to use it, anyway. If you don’t want to use the App, you can still operate the Delta 2 anyway, but you won’t be able to select the power usage for your particular preference at that time, as you will using the App.

The things that were not-so-good:

No true UPS functions
The EcoFlow Delta 2 has an EPS function (Emergency Power Supply) but not a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). So if you’re using it as a backup power supply, if your mains power fails, the switchover time is not fast enough to prevent data loss. That said, 20ms is still fast enough for most people. And we note that other portable power station brands describe their own 20ms switchover as being a UPS. Hmmm.

The BMS is not quite as good as that in the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2
Jackery came up with a really excellent standard of BMS in their newest range, spearheaded by the 1500W Explorer 1000v2, and one of the reasons for a broadly positive review of the Jackery Explorer 300 Plus. It has the deepest and broadest range of protections. That’s not saying the EcoFlow model doesn’t have an excellent BMS, it does. But the Jackery’s range of protections make it the safest option, which also make it unlikely to suffer damage, resulting in a likely very long-lasting unit.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Review Summary

That calls it a day on our EcoFlow Delta 2 Review.

As you read, EcoFlow are a high quality brand, and, in our analysis, the Delta 2 is representative of that.

The build quality, range and quality of the features offered are very good. The Wifi App stands out among other makers who are now offering the same thing, in their newest power station ranges.

However, it lacks a true UPS function. Not everyone will care, but it’s a feature offered by other products at this price level. The Delta 2 has a high quality BMS but is outmatched in this regard by the new Jackery Explorer 1000 v2.
