Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 UK Review

We’re checking out a new Jackery model this time. This one is a replacement for their original model, which has been, it’s fair to say, phenomenally popular. This, then, is a Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 Review.

We’ll let you know how it performs in practice, how well built it is. We’ll be delving into how it actually differs from the original Explorer 1000, and whether it’s worth the money.

Is it a revolution over the old one, or just a little spruce up, a little evolution to make more money?

Below we’ve got the basics. You can check out the price and specifications, at Jackery UK.

Jackery Explorer 1000 v2

  • Max Power: 1500W
  • Energy Capacity: 1070Wh
  • Dimensions: ‎34 x 23 x 28cm
  • Weight: 10.8kg
  • No. ports: 6 (Including 2 AC outlets)

What factors did we taxiew?

We rated it for:

  • Sustained power performance (does it reach its rated maximum power supply, and how well does it sustain it)
  • Size and weight (relative to competitors of similar power and capacity)
  • BMS quality and features
  • Battery grade (and likely longevity, resistance to undercharge, overcharge etc.)
  • Number of power ports and how stacked with useful features, relative to other power stations

Rating the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2

What pros and cons came out of our analysis?

Jackery Explorer 1000 v2

Postivie aspects of this power station:

Likely to have great longevity
In our estimation, this is likely to be the power station model with the longest average lifespan. Firstly, Jackery’s build quality, internal components and manufacturing rigour are all high end. Secondly, this uses the latest model of LiFePO4 battery and high grade Lithium cells, which takes this model to a level beyond the competition. And indeed the old model, the original Explorer 1000, which had a lithium ion battery. Our analysis showed excellent sustained power delivery. A generator’s heart is its battery, and the Explorer 1000 v2 has a mighty powerful heart. Thirdly, the BMS is exceptional and this is such a significant advantage over other models that we’ll discuss it in full detail on its own, see below.

App with Wifi
One of a new breed of Jackery portable power stations, which can be operated by App – and most significantly, you can connect to the App via Wifi. And, according to our analysis, it’s a good one, fairly intuitive and is a useful tool for those who want to keep track of their power usage.

Outstanding BMS quality
We mentioned it above, but it’s worthy of a Pro on its own. We rate it the best BMS on the market. It’s an area that Jackery have poured considerable resources into making. Typically, a piece of software like this isn’t going to be something you care much about, it just kind of does its job in the background, you just want it to work, that’s it. But a BMS (Battery Management System) for a modern portable battery generator’s LiFePO4 battery is like night watchman, life support system and guardian angel rolled into one. The Explorer 1000 v2 has a huge amount of protections built into it that make it not only extremely safe to use, but very difficult to cause damage to its battery, this shortening its lifespan considerably. A high quality BMS like this one can make a very significant difference to how long your power station lasts.

Cons and possible reasons why it may not be right for you:

Warranty length
The standard warranty on the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 is just 3 years (albeit extendable to 5 years). A few years ago, a 3 year warranty was fairly standard but we reckon Jackery need to get with the times. The combination of modern Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries with a well-developed BMS mean that it’s now much harder than ever to mistreat your power station; by, for example undercharging, overcharging, or using/charging it in temperatures that it shouldn’t be working in. And that translates to a much longer lifespan than ever before. That’s why their big rival EcoFlow offers a 5 year warranty as standard, and some competitors are even going a couple of years further than that.

Fewer ports than almost every other competitor product of this size
Only 6 power ports, two of which are AC ports. We’re slightly disappointed by that, given that this is a larger size of solar generator. Other power stations of a similar size have as many as 12 connection ports and 4 AC ports. The main competitor to this model (since it’s a similar price and size, and from a top maker), the EcoFlow Delta 2, has 13 ports, 4 of which are AC outlets.

Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 Review Summary

Hope you enjoyed reading this Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 Review, and now have a clearer picture of the advantages and disadvantages.

We rate it as a having a potential lifespan greater than any other competitor can match, in large part thanks to the Jackery signature build quality (see our Jackery manufacturer quality review). (We also noted that same attribute in the other model in the new generation of Jackery solar generators, the Explorer 300 Plus.) And crucially, it also has a very highly developed BMS and the latest high-end Lithium battery.

In these ways its a major step up from the original Explorer 1000 – in no small part due to a vastly improved, up-to-date Lithium battery and BMS.

A couple of areas let it down, though. It has only 6 ports, limiting how many devices you can use and/or charge at the same time. For users of a 1500W power station, you may have need to use more than a couple of AC ports, at a given point in time. And Jackery have been a little thrifty with their warranty length, just 3 years is poor compared to the competition (speaking of competition, check out our comparison of EcoFlow vs Jackery).

Good luck with your portable power future, whatever you decide!
